2020-21 School Year

First Day of School-August 26, 2020

Wilton Community School District

Hello everyone. Welcome to the start of the 2020-21 school year. We are excited and look forward to working with you and your children. On-line registration opens up tomorrow, July 30th at noon and goes until Thursday, August 13th. School will start on Wednesday, August 26th at 9:10 a.m. (Our normal Wednesday start time) and go until 3:15 p.m. All other days of the week are from 8:10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. I’ve included several documents and links at the bottom of this page for you to review. Please read through them carefully as many things have changed as we prepare to teach your children in the safest way possible under the most current guidelines.

On Friday, July 17 the Governor Reynolds delivered a proclamation prohibiting schools from providing instruction primarily through remote learning opportunities without explicit authorization by her in a public health disaster emergency proclamation. Based on this proclamation, our plan is to bring students back to the classroom in person on as our primary learning platform. Because we have a large number of people in our building and being socially distanced is not always achievable in the classroom and throughout school, all staff members and students will be required to wear a mask. Students are being asked to purchase one that works best for them. If you are in need of assistance, please contact us and we can work with you. We will have extras at school if a student forgets theirs, one breaks during the day, etc. If your child has a medical issue and cannot wear a mask, please contact Heather Hartley at heatherhartley@wiltoncsd.org to discuss alternatives.

A special note – all Covid 19 medical decisions when it comes to individuals needing to be quarantined, information being sent to parents and staff when a person contracts it, etc will come from the Muscatine County Department of Health. The district does not make those decisions or communications. For example, if one of your child’s teachers or classmates is out due to Covid 19, a mass email will not go out to the parents going into details about who it is, how long they are out, etc unless it comes from the Department of Health. There are HIPA rights that must be followed for individuals when medical issues arise, and we legally cannot share that information with the community.

We respect and understand some families may not want to send your children to school. A virtual k-12 learning platform called Edgenuity is being offered as an alternative. You may look at the program on Edgenuity.com You will be asked to select it as your learning choice on the school registration form. Students who choose Edgenuity are still considered Wilton students and will need to fill out and pay registration fees as if attending in person. Once you select this option, you will be contacted on getting started with the program, how it works, etc. Please contact Mr. Jamie Meyer at jamiemeyer@wiltoncsd.org with questions.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Our current plan is subject to change due to conditions we do not necessarily control. We will inform you of any changes in our plan as directed by the Department of Health, the Iowa Department of Education, the Governor’s office as we move forward. We can do this!! Go BEAVERS!

Sincerely,

Mr. Joe Burnett

Superintendent
