WCSD COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Wilton Community School District comprehensive school counseling program is to provide opportunities to enhance student’s ability to acquire knowledge, attitudes and skills in the academic, career and personal/social domains towards becoming contributing members of society.

WILTON GRADUATION AND GRADE LEVEL REQUIREMENTS

All students are scheduled for seven (7) academic classes and Physical Education.

Seniors in good academic standing may include one (1) open block (first or last block) per semester.

Grade Classifications

To make adequate progress towards graduation, students must earn these minimum units.

The administration reserves the right to place students in grade levels according to their units earned.

After the Freshman Year.................................6.5 units earned

After the Sophomore Year.............................13.0 units earned

After the Junior Year......................................19.5 units earned

WHS Graduation Requirements

These are the minimum requirements that must be completed to earn a Wilton High School Diploma:

Required Units: 14.5

4 units in English Grade Number of Semesters

English I Grade 9 2 semesters

English II Grade 10 2 semesters

English III Grade 11 2 semesters

Communications I Grade 9 or 10 1 semester

Elective Course Any Grade 1 semester

3 units in Social Studies:

American History Grade 9 2 semesters

World History Grade 10 2 semesters

American Government Grade 12 1 semester

Elective Course Grade 11 or 12 1 semester

3 units in Science:

Earth Science Grade 9 2 semesters

Biology Grade 10 2 semesters

Recommended 3rd Science Course Grade 11or 12 2 semesters

3 units in Mathematics:

Recommended Course Sequence Grade 9 2 semesters

Recommended Course Sequence Grade 10 2 semesters

Recommended Course Sequence Grade 11 2 semesters

0.5 units in Lifeskills:

Senior Lifeskills Seminar Grade 12 1 semester

1 unit in Physical Education:

1/8 unit per semester All Grades* All semesters*

*Every student is required to enroll in Physical Education, unless they are exempted as outlined by the Iowa

Department of Education. Exempted students must earn alternative credits in elective academic classes.

Students graduating in seven semesters are required to earn 7/8 units in Physical Education, but must still

meet the 26 total credits required. Juniors may waiver PE one semester IF replaced with an academic class.

Seniors may waiver PE one semester and must be enrolled in three consecutive blocks.

Elective Units: 11.5

One-half unit is earned for the successful completion of a course that meets the equivalent of a block period

for one semester (18 weeks), excluding P.E.

26 TOTAL CREDIT UNITS ARE REQUIRED FOR WHS GRADUATION
